Two young ladies, Kiara (known as Emo Reaper) and Memphis Shawty, started coming to my studio shortly after high school. Both 21, they carried the weight of heartbreak, loss, and trauma, channeling their experiences into powerful music. They were inseparable, always supporting each other as they processed life’s hardships through their songs.

One day, while in the studio, Kiara took a phone call from her dad. When she hung up, I could see the sadness in her eyes—deeper than I’d seen before. She started talking about feeling unseen, unloved, and even about thoughts of suicide. Memphis, too, shared her own struggles with grief and betrayal, and the conversation turned to the heavy burden they both carried, from the hurt caused by relationships to the pain of losing friends and family.

As I listened, I felt the Holy Spirit leading me to share the Gospel with them—the message of hope, love, and purpose that comes from a relationship with Jesus. I gently looked them in the eye and told them how much they are loved and valued by their Heavenly Father, how deeply He cares for them, and how He wants them to experience true joy and peace, not a life weighed down by suffering and despair.

The message struck a chord with both Kiara and Memphis. They seemed to sense the depth of love I was describing. I asked them if they would like to invite Jesus into their lives, to experience a relationship with Him that could transform their pain into healing. They agreed, and I called a female friend of mine to help guide them through a prayer of salvation. Together, we celebrated as they each gave their lives to Jesus, and I shared my friend’s contact info so they would have a strong woman of faith to connect with for encouragement and support.

Since they live about 45 minutes away from my studio, I helped them research local churches in their area, places where they could find a supportive community and grow in their faith. I wanted them to feel supported, knowing they had resources and connections beyond our studio time to help them on this new journey.

Today, Kiara and Memphis are still working on their relationship with Jesus, and it’s amazing to see how God is moving in their lives. These young women, once weighed down by hurt, are now walking in a new direction, discovering hope and healing they never knew was possible. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have shared that moment with them and look forward to seeing what God has planned for their lives.
